This cattle town is set in the western side of the Tras la Sierra Mountains. The location already makes you guess that the Roman road passes through the boundary and not through the locality. Thefore, if we follow the “right way”, we will be approximately 3'5 kms away from the town centre, taking into account that 5 kms of the Route coincide with the boundary to Zarza de Granadilla, reason why this section takes the name of El Lindón.

The town lives with the typical peace of these mountain places, almost at the pace of the flow of the fountain in the square, epicentre of a urban layout where, without haste, you can easily find folk architecture: the houses with monumental chimneys of the streets Horno, Granados, Consuelo, Solanillo or Telar are some of the built ones in the nineteenth century. If we add the oil mill of Horno street, the shepherds huts and the sheep pens covered with a soil vault in the pastures, we find that subsidiary architecture, almost in disuse, which is an example of the needs of a not so far-off time.

HERITAGE

Church of San Gregorio Magno (dedicated to St. Gregory)
Sixteenth – seventeenth centuries. It was rebuilt in 1852. It was declared a listed building in 1982.

Roman ruins

You can still recognise the ruins of an old Roman temple in the spot called Piedraslabradas hill, close to the way of the Roman road.

FESTIVITIES & TRADITIONS

San Policarpo
26 de enero. El pueblo se encomendó a este santo desde una inundación que se produjo en el s. XVIII. Se conmemora en acción de gracias.

Semana Santa
El Jueves Santo se realiza la procesión con las imágenes de la Dolorosa y el Cristo. El Viernes Santo por la noche se reza el Rosario de la Buena Muerte, y el Domingo de Resurrección se realiza el Encuentro de la Virgen con el Niño, mientras se lanzan disparos de escopeta.

San Gregorio Magno
9 de mayo. Es el patrón de la localidad.

Fiesta del Emigrante
Mediado el mes de agosto.

Fiesta del Tálamo
Corresponde a la Virgen del Rosario. Se entregan “ofrendas”, a la vez que se baila por cada una de ellas en el momento de ofrecerlas. Luego se subastan.

Cristo de la Salud
14 de septiembre. Se subastan las andas con las que se mete el Cristo en la iglesia.

Gastronomía

Patatas escabechadas, perrunillas y magdalenas en el capítulo de los dulces, y vino de pitarra.
